If COVID has taught us anything, it’s that the average desk job can be done in our PJs, rocking unflattering bed head, while balancing a laptop on a jar of peanut butter (too specific?). But just because you can work like no one’s watching doesn’t mean you have to – we can be civilized while enjoying the freedoms of a work-from-home lifestyle. Perhaps you’ve used the last several months to turn your den into a chic home office, or enclosed your patio to get some fresh air while hammering out emails. Changing our environment is critical to separating work life from home ease.
Now what if you could literally separate your office from your home? No, I’m not talking about breaking into your office building with hopes that the WiFi is still operational. Airstream has a better solution: the 2021 Flying Cloud 30FB Office Is the latest addition to the iconic “silver bullet” model line, featuring a dedicated office space, more connectivity and power options than ever, and the amenities travelers need for a weekend trip or a months-long jaunt. Sure, your office is still under the same roof as your bed, but now you can open your front door to a new vista every day.
Spurred by the shifting travel landscape during the pandemic and feedback from owners already working remotely from the comfort of their RV, Airstream redesigned the rear corner of its popular Flying Cloud 30FB Corner Bunk travel trailer, replacing the sleeping area with a “work from anywhere” office space. With room for a family to take even longer adventures together while the parents stay connected to work, the 30FB Office is made for charting a course into the new reality of how we play, work, learn, and live while traveling.
“The pandemic has permanently changed the traditional work landscape and we’re thrilled to offer a travel trailer that meets the needs of our times without compromise,” said Bob Wheeler, Airstream President and CEO. “Airstream has always provided the freedom of a mobile living, playing, and working space, but the Flying Cloud 30FB Office takes that promise to the next level with flexibility and comfort in a design inspired by real-world experience.”
The dedicated workspace includes a comfortable office chair that slides into a recessed groove in the edge of the desk, giving owners the freedom to easily convert the space into a sleeping or relaxing area for one. Sliding drawers and storage cubbies provide organization, while a privacy divider and black-out curtains provide a measure of privacy while doing video calls on the road. And don’t worry – all the classic Airstream goodies are still on board, including a queen size bed, a bench and convertible dinette, and a dedicated bathroom.
Three windows give the office space a nearly panoramic view, while blackout curtains help with concentration (if you park in a particularly picturesque spot). Standard options like Airstream Connected are also pre-wired for easy bundling of upgrades like Airstream Power Plus and the Solar Package, which offer owners more ways to stay off the grid for longer.
In addition to standard Flying Cloud features, the 30FB Office floor plan includes the following improvements:
- Dedicated desk with sliding drawer storage and additional storage cubbies
- Comfortable office chair secured with strap during travel
- Several USB ports located throughout the desk area
- Pop-up USB/AC outlet supported by the 1000W power inverter
- Pull-out table creating more work space and slides out of sight when not in use
- Access to the satellite TV/HDMI outlets from onboard Blu-Ray DVD player
- Privacy divider
- Two desk grommets for organizing cables or mounting monitors
- Overhead storage cabinets with dry erase surfaces and under-mount LED lights
- Three windows for maximum light and expansive views and black out curtains
With a base weight of 6,757 pounds and maximum trailer capacity (GVWR) of 8,800 pounds, the Flying Cloud 30FB Office is compatible with a variety of SUVs and trucks. Prices start at $107,500 and Airstream dealers will see inventory in the coming weeks.
Fair warning: even after this pandemic is in the rearview, you may never again be satisfied with a commute or a cubicle.
